Topsy creates positive change in the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children
Topsy empowers families and communities to improve the care and protection of all children made vulnerable by the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
Although all our programmes are child-centred, the overall aims of the organisation are to strengthen families and the community as well as result in the involvement of more community members by creating a sense of ownership and long-term sustainability.
The focus of the programme is to offer relief services to people and families in underserved rural communities in Mpumalanga. This area, often referred to as a forgotten part of the country due to its scant infrastructure and lack of large-scale industry, is home to several large rural communities. The Topsy Foundation is the only organisation of its kind with an active presence in these communities.
The holistic care of orphaned and vulnerable children
Physical support is offered through the provision of food parcels, school uniforms and other essential items on a monthly basis.Individual and community vegetable gardens are also established.
Individual counselling sessions are offered. Activities would include assistance to access grants and referrals for statutory placements.
Our trained professional nurse and community health care workers assist with home-based care services. Our medical officer and other trained medical staff also assist with x-rays, growth monitoring and provision of medication for opportunistic infections. In addition, the organisation provides cervical cancer screening services.
Our Early Childhood Development programme provides educational resources through the Topsy Toy Library and training of educators.
Spiritual support is offered through specific vacation programmes and lifeskills mini projects.
