Topsy celebrates 15 years of service to rural communities

In November 2015 we celebrated 15 years of dedicated service towards the upliftment of rural communities in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Topsy was originally conceptualised and founded in 2000 by Duke Kaufman, Silja Elena and Doug Maritz, to provide relief services to some of South Africa’s most under-resourced rural communities.

Enterprise Development Empowers Women from Rural Communities

2015 was a truly fantastic year for the Topsy Enterprise Development Programme. The 17 women who are a part of the programme in rural Mpumalanga have continued to learn and grow their knowledge and skills and maintain a steady income for themselves and their families.

Graduation in Grootvlei for Day Care Centre Principals

November 13th marked a momentous occasion for the Early Childhood Development programme, the first graduation ceremony for 17 ECD practitioners from our communities. Emily is one of the principals that received certification. Emily is the principal at Leseding day care centre in Siyathemba.

One of Our special Gogos' (Grannies') Stories

Gogo Martha is 70yrs old.She is looking after 4 orphans. The children's mother, who was her daughter, passed away in 2005 and left the children in her care. The last child was 3 months old when the mother died.

Story of Gogo(Granny) Dorris Mabuza

Doris is a grandmother, aged 75 and she is looking after her 3 grandchildren that have all been orphaned. She is a very positive and energetic lady, despite her own poor health circumstances. Doris and the children are beneficiaries of Topsy’s projects'.

Flourishing Vegetable Gardens

The lady sitting on the grass is preparing the tomatoes to make tomato jam. The good news is that a supplier from Frankfort has agreed to buy the pumpkins and tomatoes from her which will enable her to earn an income.
